The book “Cat in the Hat,” written by Dr. Seuss is a great story. It tells about on a rainy day the cat came to a home. Which there were only two kids left at home while there mother is out of the house for the day. The cat showing up to there house and start doing tricks and mess around with the things in house. While the narrator and Sally are just staring at the cat creating chaos in their home, which the cat thinks, is fun. When on the other hands the fish tells the narrator and sally that they should stop the cat from doing all those bad thing. But instead they don’t listen, they just continue to watch the cat every move. I believe the theme of the story is Id vs. Superego. I think it is bad vs. good because in the story the cat character is a bad one. He doesn’t listen to anyone. He always does what he wants. Even though it not the best choice he would still do it. It is because in the story the cat character is like the devil. For instance, the cat never listens to what the fish say. Like when the fish tells him to put every down before he falls because he standing on a ball and tossing the thing around. The cat becomes even more Id because of the way is it look. The cat is very big which is unimaginable and not only that but it can talk. The cat has a bad character in the story at the beginning. It is because he wants the kids to have fun. But what he doesn’t know is that the thing the he is doing is not making the narrator and Sally having fun. It only seems to make them shock of what he doing. For instance, the cats bring Thing One and Thing Two into the house has causes more problem. The two Things then cause the house to become messier than before. Everything becomes out of place. That when sally and the narrator step up to the scene. They then try to catch Things one and Two with a net but that just created more damage to the house. The house with such a mess and the mother coming home, they then tell that they want the cat to be out of the house because with his bad character he has created such a mess in their home. The cat in the hat leaving the house with a sad face shows that he feels sad that he not wanted in the house. Also, this show that he been doing a lot of bad things which should have not been done before. At the end of the story he came back and tells sally and the narrator. That he has a rule and the rule is to pick up after him. He use the machine he came with to clean the house. The cat in the hat cleans at the end of the story show that he finally becomes a good person or a superego. He has learned from what was wrong to do and right things. And that was to clean after his mess that he had created. The cat cleaning up after his mess also shows that he has taken responsibility. What I mean by this is that he learns to become a good person by being a responsible for what he do. And that was to clean after the mess. In conclusion the cat character ties back to the theme Id vs. Superego because he has a very bad character in the beginning of the story then his character changes at the end to be a good person.
